Machinery spaces, engines, generators, bilges, chassis and undercarriages accumulate oil, carbon, salt and road film. In a marine environment that contamination holds moisture and salt directly against steel and alloy. On a vehicle it hides corrosion until the corrosion is the problem.
The conventional methods are all poorly suited to the environment. Steam and water in a machinery space means moisture in electrics and insulation. Abrasive blasting near running machinery is unacceptable and leaves media in every void. Chemical cleaning ends up in the bilge or the drain, and has to be accounted for.
Dry ice blasting suits both settings. Solid CO₂ pellets are accelerated at the surface; on impact each pellet sublimes, lifting deposits clear without abrasion. No water. No chemicals. No secondary waste to collect or discharge.
Our equipment
Industrial-grade air, brought alongside
Working in a machinery space or on a fleet yard rewards equipment that holds its output. Undersized compressors lose pressure through a long job and introduce moisture into the air stream, which in a salt-laden environment accelerates the corrosion you were cleaning to prevent.
Kaeser and Boge compressors hold constant airflow at constant pressure. Tundra air dryers keep the supply dry. M-class extraction and containment screening confine dislodged contamination, which matters in a confined space with limited ventilation.
Substrate, contamination and access are assessed first. Pellet size, flow rate and pressure are configured around them: gentle on painted surfaces, alloy and wiring, firm on carbon deposit, compacted underseal and heavy oil contamination.

Marine
Engine rooms & machinery spaces
Deckheads, tank tops, framing, pipework and plating cleaned of oil and salt deposit in place, without water introduced into a confined space.
Marine engines & generators
Blocks, ancillaries, turbochargers, exhaust runs and generator sets cleaned dry and non-conductively, without masking electrical components.
Bilges & tank tops
Oil, sludge and residue lifted from bilge spaces and tank tops with nothing added to the bilge and no chemical discharge to account for.

Winches, windlasses, hydraulic units, hatches and deck machinery cleaned of salt, grease and corrosion product.
Coating & antifoul removal
Aged coatings and antifoul fractured from the substrate by thermal shock, without abrasive media and without the fallout containment grit blasting requires.

Chassis rails, cross members, suspension, airlines and underbody cleaned back to visible metal, with no water forced into bearings or connectors.
Engines & driveline
Engine bays, gearboxes, axles and driveline components cleaned of oil contamination so leaks and wear become visible and inspectable.
Exhaust & aftertreatment externals
Manifolds, downpipes, DPF and SCR unit externals and heat shields cleaned of carbon bake without risk to sensors or substrates.
Refrigerated units
Condenser and evaporator coils, housings and mounting frames cleaned of dust and residue, restoring designed heat rejection.
Bus & coach undercarriage
Underbody, suspension, wheel arches and running gear cleaned of road film and salt, then ready for protection or inspection.
How we programme it
Pre-survey & inspection prep
Cleaning ahead of survey, class inspection, MOT preparation or insurance inspection, so the inspection reads the asset and not the deposit on it.
Lay-up & recommissioning
Full clean-down before lay-up, dry, and recommissioning cleaning afterwards, without moisture left in machinery spaces over the winter.
Pre-sale & handover prep
Vessels, vehicles and plant prepared for sale, charter or handover, where visible condition affects the value directly.
Fleet maintenance programme
A scheduled interval across a fleet or a yard, programmed around your operating pattern rather than around downtime.
Corrosion protection follow-on
Where protection is being applied afterwards, it goes onto clean, dry, contaminant-free metal, which is where bonding and service life come from.

Salt and moisture removed, none added
Contamination holding salt against steel is removed dry, and nothing is introduced that will sit in a seam or a cavity afterwards.

The CO₂ we use is reclaimed from existing industrial processes rather than produced for us. Nothing is added, and there is no waste stream to discharge.

In the machinery space
No water where water is the problem
A machinery space is the worst possible place to introduce moisture. Insulation, alarms, sensors, switchboards, terminal boxes and cabling all sit within a metre of the surfaces that need cleaning, in a space with limited ventilation and no easy way to dry anything out.
Dry ice is non-conductive and entirely dry. Electrical components do not need masking, insulation does not need protecting, and there is no wash-water to pump, contain or discharge. Extraction captures dislodged contamination as we work.
The surfaces come up clean and dry, and everything around them is exactly as we found it. In a confined space, that is the difference between a job that can be done in service and one that cannot.
Confined space, ventilation and permit requirements are agreed before mobilisation.
